Why Sher Singh Rana killed bandit queen Phoolan Devi
An auspicious day it was Nagpanchami and Phoolan Devi (India's famed bandit queen-turned-parliamentarian, on July 25, 2001) had made kheer (milk), which she also offered her would-be killer hours before he shot her dead. Sher Singh Rana had come to meet her at her MP's Government house and shot dead Phoolan Devi. Sher Singh Rana had actually killed Phoolan Devi; Police had refused to believe because of lack of evidence. Although Rana had given up before the police in Dehra Dun in July 2001 just after the murder. The Hindu reports in 2004, he escapes from Tihar Jail and reached Kandahar (Afghanistan) from where he bought the relics of Raj put king Prithviraj Chauhan.
Sher Singh Rana killed Phoolan Devi to avenge the 1981 Behmai murder in 2001. Sher Singh Rana surrendered before the police after the crime. However, in 2004, Sher Singh Rana fled from Delhi's Tihar Jail and reached Kandahar in Afghanistan from where he bought the relics of Raj put king Prithviraj Chauhan. Sher Singh Rana was convicted under Section 302 and Section 307 of the Indian Panel Code for killing Phoolan Devi. But Rana was clear of making false statements, Arms Act and criminal plan. Ten of others charged in the case were acquitted. In 2006, he was arrested by special team of Delhi police from Kolkata and brought back to New Delhi. Phoolan Devi criminal charges, she got jailed, was charged with 48 crimes, including 30 charges of dacoity (banditry) and kidnapping. But after some year she was finally set free on parole in 1994 after encouragement by Vishambhar Prasad Nishad. The Government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Mulayam Singh Yadav, extracts all the crimes cases against her. Even after doing so many crimes, she become MP(Member of the Indian Parliament) . Phoolan Devi was a Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh and shot dead around afternoon on July 25, 2001. She was killed at the gate of her official residence in the highly secured New Delhi district.
During the hearing, the court recorded the testimony of 171 prosecution witnesses. Investigations suffered a major setback when Rana managed to escape from Tihar Jail on February 17, 2004. The same year, the Kshatriya Swabhimaan Andolan Samanvay Committee (KSASC)decided to honor Rana for "justify the dignity of the Kshatriya community" and "drying the tears of the widows of Behmai" After this , Sher Singh Rana hand over his self to police ,he acknowledge his crime and jailed for Murder of Phoolan Devi . Rana killed Devi to avenge the 1981 Behmai kill in which she killed 17 people of the Raj put community. She said she had killed the men to avenge her gang-rape by the Raj put of the village. Two years after his escape he was tracked down by the police and arrested in Kolkata in 2006. He was finally nabbed on April, by the Special Cell team in Kolkata and was brought to Delhi.
